Starting the game
Playing pickleball can either be a single or a doubles game. Once you have decided who will start, the player on the right side of the court will serve. The player who begins the game will serve the ball underhand and it must go across the court.
The Two-Bounce Rule
Pickleball has a two-bounce rule, which means both the serve and the return must bounce. After the serve and return, players can hit the ball off the bounce or in the air. Playing pickleball will continue this way until someone makes a fault.
What Are Faults
When faults occur this will stop play and players will have to serve again. Faults could be double bounces, out-of-bounce, hitting the ball into the net, and serving the ball into the “kitchen”. The kitchen refers to the first rectangular box on either side of the court. That being said, all shots in the box or that hit the lines are considered in.
Scoring
Scoring in pickleball can be a little confusing. When you are playing pickleball, you can only score if you are on the serving team. If the serving team wins a point, the same server will switch with their partner and serve in the opposite direction. Each doubles team has two turns to serve and singles teams have one. The score must be said before every serve and the game is played to eleven but you must win by two.
