Four Tips for Shopping Pickleball Paddles

At Engage Sporting, we want every customer to be able to find the perfect pickleball paddle, no matter if they’re new to the game or they’ve been playing for years. When it comes to shopping for paddles, there are a few things to keep in mind. In this post, we’ll look at four tips for choosing a new pickleball paddle. If you have any questions, please contact us at any time!

Decide on a Paddle Style and Design

There are a number of paddle styles to choose from, and each one will offer different features in terms of control, power, spin, and other elements of play. For example, a standard paddle will offer a balance of control and power, while a shorter paddle will provide better control. We carry a wide variety of paddles, making it easy to decide which one you want.

Choose Your Play Style

If you’re new to the game of pickleball, you may want to choose a standard paddle while you get used to the rhythm and the physics of the sport. For those who have been playing for a while, you can pick a paddle that fits your play style, such as generating tons of spin with an elongated paddle that has a longer handle length. If you enjoy playing with a bigger sweet spot on your paddle, then a short paddle is likely the best option for you.

Paddle Core and Thickness

A pickleball paddle’s core is often made from a durable material such as graphite, carbon fiber, or a type of polymer material. The core can range in thickness, and the thicker a paddle, the more softness and control it provides when hitting the pickleball. If you want more power, a thinner paddle (with a thickness of 10mm to 14mm) can provide more “pop.” Our team can help you decide what core material and thickness is best for your needs.

Paddle Weight

Pickleball paddles range in weight from approximately 7 oz to 8.5 oz and can be classified as lightweight, standard-weight, and heavyweight. The lighter the paddle, the easier it is to swing, but you’ll have to generate more speed to hit the ball as hard as you want. Standard-weight paddles are often best for beginners since they aren’t too heavy and generate more power on a swing. When you order from Engage Sporting, you can submit a paddle weight request to request a specific weight for your paddle.
